I’m not even going to justify my impulsive purch

I’m not even going to justify my impulsive purchase of colour and comfort. Because It’s Friday, it’s the end of the week and if the truth be told I’m cream crackered. I’m looking back on some gorgeous early morning walks and fun time with the girl. New yarn is like a new pencil case and if I look at it just like that for a while before caking it up and casting on that’ll do pig, that’ll do. I started making this when my girl was about.....1

I started making this when my girl was about.....12. I’ve promised to finish it for the last six years and she leaves for Uni soon, crap mum strikes again. Will it be finished it time? I don’t know is the honest answer, there’s only so many hours in the day...it’s a race against time and there’s a new baby in the family coming very soon, can’t bloomin wait, ooooffff I can’t wait to squish that little lamb and inhale baby head scent. But my girl is leaving, it’s like a revolving door this thing called parenthood, a very lovely revolving door all the same.

The things is, I plan a route and we just go that extra bit further, like twice the distance and twice the climb. And that’s the other thing, when you’re just enjoying something you don’t want it to stop and you just keep enjoying it, and for me, and I hope my friends, we just want to keep enjoying being outside and walking, moving, chatting and sharing the experience. We’re knitty friends but just love being outdoors and that’s ace. We leave the working week behind, chat, share and solve as we walk and I love it I do. Friends and the outdoors, tonic of life.

I said it was vast and here it is! Thing is, with a @westknits is as soon as you finish one, you want to start another, another challenge to learn some new techniques and skills, I love it, that feeling if excitement, I guess a bit like a new term. I’m already thinking of what next, there’s a demonic laugh there as I plan and new project and gander new yarn...
So, just leave me here to walk the beaches with knitwear and colour and a dog yapping in the distance waiting for the ball to be thrown in the water, one more bloomin time. Happy Bank Holiday week, I hope it’s a creative one.

International dog day this week but let's be reali

International dog day this week but let's be realistic, it's Wodge day every day for us at home.
This fluff ball of white matted fur is the soft side of velcro to scratchy side that is my side, he's hilarious, known to sit at the table when he's hungry until he's got your attention, he's an explorer and loves walking the Peaks and Coastline with us, he's annoyingly randy at 8pm every night, with.out.fail is desperate to bonk your leg, he barks like mad if we argue or raise voices, he gets jealous if not involved in an embrace, he goes berserk when Granpa visits, he waits at the door when the kids leave and goes crazy when they are home, he loves to go to @fernmosspetsupplies for bone or @thebridgebakehouse for a sausage, he's made our family complete, crazy white fluff ball he is.

Starburst is complete.
After a slight soaking panic it's good and I think quite possibly my favourite so far. I'll get a picture of the whole shawl soon. It is vast, and I love the colours. It didn't quite make Ibiza but will bring some colour to dark days for sure.

Just before lockdown my sister announced she was p

Just before lockdown my sister announced she was pregnant and I hadn't managed to see her until Friday night.
I've missed seeing her and her family so much but I got to squish my nephews and see her and her husband three weeks before her due date. Her new baby gets the first Mamie and Florrie blanket I made to wrap that special baby up. Of course this gives my license to knit much more. Next time I'll be visiting a family of 5, I cannot wait!!! Love them.

There is that saying that when someone buys from a small business they do a little happy dance, it is true. I've been packing a few little pom pom pots for a regular customer who keeps coming back because she says they make perfect gifts and are always loved. Thank you, every time you come back I do a little dance. It is so good when someone gets your madness and appreciates your pom poms and creativity, it really is. Pom poms rock and so do kind words and actions.

I'm dragging my #starburstshawl around with me for-ever and ever until it is finished, I've also invested in a new rucksack which fits it and all my general detritus in it (which now includes facemasks and a barrel of handsantiser, who knew 2020 would deliver such strange times) Last weekend I climbed the dunes at Aberffraw to find a quite moment to admire the view and crack on with a few more rows, one bag of sand and a few dropped stitches later...bothered. nah, life is too short, just need to finish the shawl before I reach my sell by date and if that means dragging it around these cosstal paths, so be it.

I've been really worried about empty nest syndrome

I've been really worried about empty nest syndrome happening this September. Really worried (don't tell the kids) about missing my kids and our little unit.
This week has taught me so much; I can be happy with a rucksack, my dog, some comfy hand-knitted socks and my mate walking along the coast. We will miss our old unit so much but my happiness will come from their independence and their happiness, that is amazing. Covid has also taught me what is important too, what we did last year isn't what we are doing this year, life has slowed down and that was probably needed. I will still shed a wee tear in September but I may just head West to the coast some weekends to walk and I'm window shopping for dogs, we've broken poor Wodge this week, he may need a friend to keep him young. I'm wondering; labradoodle, cockapoo or cocker spaniel, something with long legs and a love of the outdoors.or maybe just a rucksack to carry Wodge when he's tired. Whatever happens, there'll always be a dog, maybe two, and the sea. Stay happy kids, your mum loves you, life is for living, the world is your oyster 'an all. I'm off round the coast.

Give me the chance of a coastal walk and I'll be there. We walked the gorgeous 10km walk though the dunes at #aberffraw along the coastline to #stcwyfanschurch back to Aberffraw and the old bridge all Game of Thrones and ancient village covered in sand. You can get married in that Church, you'd want to arrive by boat, maybe I'll host my own funeral there and you can lob me out the back door and into the sea in a pea green boat lined in the most delicious yarn. Good luck getting me up them steps.
One of my favourite ever films is Local Hero, today was close to that. My secret dream job would be to work on Countryfile or walk with that Scottish Neil chap along the coast and get paid for the pleasure. You can but dream and keep on walking.
